Who are we and what do we do?
We are Unum (pronounced you-num) and we’re one of the UK’s leading financial protection insurers; that means we sell Income Protection, Critical Illness cover and Life Insurance.
You may not have heard of us before, so you probably don’t know that we’ve been around for over forty years and insure more people under our Income Protection products than Aviva, Legal and General, or Canada Life – companies you’re more likely to have heard of.
We specialise in providing Income Protection through the workplace, and are committed to helping the UK’s workforce get a back-up plan.
In June 2011, we launched an Income Protection awareness campaign to highlight the key role it can play in helping to protect people’s lifestyle.
Our financial Strength and claims payments
We insure 47 of the FTSE 100 and have a financial strength rating of A- (Strong) from Standard and Poor’s. Read our financial strength leaflet to find out more. At the end of 2011, we protected more than 1.9 million people in the UK and paid more than £5 million a week in benefits to our customers.
Where we’re based
We have offices throughout the UK. Our Head Office is based in Dorking, Surrey. Our two other main offices are situated in Bristol and Basingstoke and we have regional sales offices throughout the UK, including Birmingham, Glasgow, London and Manchester.
