Overview
Group Life Insurance from Unum

A valuable benefit that offers peace of mind and access to everyday, comprehensive support services that can help attract and retain talent.

Benefits can be a multiple of employees' earnings (up to 12 x annual salary) or a set level of cover for all employees.

Group Life benefits are usually set up using a discretionary trust:

  • We offer two simple and hassle-free Group Life Master Trust arrangements: One for Registered Group Life policies and one for Excepted Group Life policies. Each offers independent professional trustee services from Zedra Governance Limited.
  • For employers using their own trust we offer a range of guidance and resources to help.

Why choose us
Our Group Life products

We offer Group Life insurance products to suit all types of employers, from SMEs to large corporates and across almost every sector of the economy.

  • Registered Group Life

Our Registered Group Life policy insures registered pension schemes and provides a tax-free lump sum up to the Lump Sum and Death Benefit Allowance (LSDBA), within HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) regulations for a registered occupational pension scheme.

People insured under the policy can have different levels of benefit.

  • Simplicity Life

Simplicity Life is a simple version of our Registered Group Life policy for employers who want to give a more basic level of life cover to their employees for the first time.

The plan is for PAYE employees and written under our Registered Group Life Master Trust.

  • Excepted Group Life

Excepted Group Life insurance usually provides tax-free benefits and is sometimes used for higher earners. It allows for lump sum death benefits to be paid outside of the Lump Sum and Death Benefit Allowance (LSDBA).

All people insured under the policy must have the same  benefit basis.

  • Spouse and partner cover

Employers can take out the policy to provide a lump sum benefit to an employee if their spouse or partner dies while insured.

A Spouse and partner policy is typically a voluntary arrangement in association with a Unum Group Life policy for the same employees.
